Nigeria announces 296 new coronavirus cases

Lassa fever claims 162 lives - NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 296 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Thursday.

The 296 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 53,317.

The NCDC also announced the discharge of 445 patients from isolation centers across the country with one new death reported.

Plateau state again reported the highest number of cases for the day with 85 news cases. Enugu state recorded 46 and Oyo 31 new cases.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria reported 21 new confirmed cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 18056.

Rivers state reported 20 new cases, FCT recorded 15 new cases while Kaduna, Bauchi and Delta recorded 13, 12 and 11 new cases respectively.

Other states are Ekiti-5, Akwa Ibom-7, Ebonyi-6, Kwara-5, Ogun-4, Osun-4, Gombe-3 and Niger-2.

NCDC reports that there are 53,021 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 40,726 discharged and 1,011 deaths.
