Al Hilal announced on Saturday, July 1, 2023, the appointment of Jorge Jesus as the new manager of the team.

The announcement came as a surprise, as the coach was being considered for the Saudi national squad. He chose to return to Al-Hilal, the team he led in 2018/19 and won the Saudi Arabian Super Cup with.

Jorge Jesus resigned from Fenerbahçe late Sunday, just after the Istanbul-based club won the Turkish Cup in 2023.

“As of today, I am not the head coach of Fenerbahçe. I told this to our president a few weeks ago,” Jesus said in a post-game news conference.

Since leaving Al Hilal, the 68-year-old Portuguese have had a remarkable managerial run, having coached Flamengo in Brazil for a season and a half, Benfica during the 2020/2021 season, and Fenerbahce, where he won the Turkish Cup last season.

With his return to the Saudi Arabian side, Jesus will have the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Navas, André Carrillo, and Moussa Marega in his ranks.
