Manchester City have signed highly-rated Argentinian midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.
The 18-year-old, who is thought to have cost City around £12.5 million plus add-ons, has signed a deal until the summer of 2028 but will stay at River until next January.
“Everyone at Manchester City is looking forward to welcoming Claudio to the club, and we wish him the best of luck in his remaining time with River,” City said in a statement.
The Argentinian will follow in the footsteps of River Plate’s Julián Álvarez, who joined Etihad Stadium in 2022.
Echeverri, who turned 18 this month, has made six senior appearances for River, who are managed by former City defender Martín Demichelis.
He also led Argentina to the semi-finals of the Under-17 World Cup in November and December last year.
Echeverri, who has trained with the senior national team, scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 quarter-final win against Brazil before losing on penalties to Germany.
