Brutalized Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero was arrested in Imo State

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has condemned the assault on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Comrade Joe Ajaero, describing it as regrettable.

Uzodimma, while in an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today, apologized for the assault met on the NLC boss despite claiming he was not aware Ajaero was in his state.

Chronicle NG reports that after being arrested in Imo by security agents allegedly sent by Uzodinma while spearheading a protest by the labour union for better wages in the state, Ajaero was beaten by the operatives.

Speaking on the incident, Uzodinma said, “I was not aware that the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was in my state. What I did was condemn the action. I have never had a disagreement with the labour union.

“It has nothing to do with my government. Whether Joe Ajaero is the president of the NLC or not, I will not wish this to happen to any human being. Of course, I have to apologize because it happened in my state.

“I am a Christian and believe in God. I can’t support violence. I can never support violence. Whatever happened to Joe Ajaero in my state, which I am not aware of, that led to his being assaulted must be regretted by both my government and myself.

“Going forward, I will also like him to do things in a more civilized manner. That was the point I was making. A man who is from my state goes on the street without clearing me out or bringing all the allegations before me.”

Meanwhile, the NLC urged aviation unions to boycott Imo airport and branded Uzodimma a persona non grata.
