In the last two weeks, the Defence Headquarters, military personnel have carried out numerous operations in the Northeast, North Central, and Northwest, freeing 468 hostages and killing 54 terrorists.
At the twice-weekly press conference on military operations, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, director of defence media operations, announced this on Thursday in Abuja.
In addition, 122 terrorists, bandits, their accomplices, and other criminals were captured by the military throughout the time, according to Danmadami.
The remaining victims were reunited with their relatives, and he added that 30 wounded rescue victims had been taken to the hospital.
Danmadami said that throughout the region’s north-eastern highlands, villages, and woods, soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai carried out operational actions targeting camps and enclaves of the terrorist groups Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) that had been located.
He said that the soldiers detained 40 logistical providers, including one woman, four terrorist informants, and 206 civilians in addition to neutralising 24 terrorists.
He claims that 501 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in total, together with their families, including 60 adult males, 176 adult females, and 266 children, had surrendered to the military at various points across the theatre of operations.
In addition, the troops found 14 AK47 weapons, 2 AK49 rifles, 1 AK56 rifle, 1 GPMG, 1 RPG tube, 1 PK MG, and 2 RPG explosives.
Additionally, 732 7.62mm NATO rounds, 77 7.62mm special rounds, 19 7.62mm by 29mm special rounds, and 16 7.62mm ball metal links rounds were found.
Additionally, 1,007 rounds of 7.62mm NATO (belted), 243 rounds of 7.62mm x 54mm special ammunition, 89 rounds of 5.56mm by 45mm special ammunition, 16 magazines for the AK-47, seven Danish firearms, N103,505 in total, and various other goods were found.
All of the confiscated materials, detained Boko Haram/lSWAP militants, and terrorists’ logistical providers were given to the appropriate authorities for follow-up action.
The terrorists from Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province who had surrendered and members of their families had been profiled for potential subsequent action.
The rescued citizens received medical care before being sent to the appropriate authorities for future action, the speaker said.
According to the defence spokesperson, during the time, the soldiers of Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stoke in North Central detained 44 suspected offenders and saved 252 citizens.
He said that in addition to other other goods, the forces also found a stockpile of weapons, 18 mobile phones, and 38 railway sleepers.
Danmadami said that in the North West, the Operation Hadarin Daji troops killed 30 terrorists, detained 33 others, and freed 10 abducted people.
According to him, the troops found 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 AK-47 magazines, 1,531 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm NATO (belted) ammunition, 139 rounds of 7.62mm special (tracer) ammunition, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special empty casings.
“Other goods found include 887 rustled cattle, seven vehicles, N230,900, 25 motorbikes, 21 mobile phones, 33 rolls of detonator wires, 11 safety fuses, 43 main explosive charges, and 87 detonators.
“All recovered items, apprehended suspects, and rescued civilians have been handed over to the appropriate authority for further action,” he said.
