The Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State capital has declared Bashir Machina as the All Progressives Congress, APC’s authentic senatorial candidate for Yobe North in the coming 2023 National Assembly elections and directed INEC to accept and publish his name accordingly.
The declaration was made by the presiding judge, Justice Fadima Aminu.
The incumbent senate president, Ahmed Lawan lost his bid to contest the presidential election and did not participate in the APC Yobe North senatorial election but was named by the party as its senatorial candidate.
The decision by APC to name Lawan who did not participate in the electoral process has since sparked a legal battle.
In her verdict on Wednesday, Judge Aminu affirmed Machina as the duly and validly elected Yobe North senatorial candidate for APC thereby upholding the May 28 primary election of the party that produced him.
Similarly, INEC had recognised Machina as the candidate of Yobe North challenging the name of Lawan which was presented by Abdullahi Adamu, the APC national chairman.
