A building that collapsed on Friday in the Mgbemena, Coal Camp area of Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, has claimed the lives of four siblings.
Hon. Uche Anya, the chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA), who visited the scene of the incident, expressed his condolences.
Anya, who described the loss of innocent children in the tragedy as heartbreaking, disclosed that the structure was originally approved for animal husbandry but was converted for residential purposes, expressing concern over the unsuitability of the collapsed building for human habitation.
“We immediately responded to the incident upon receiving the information. Unfortunately, four children lost their lives in this tragic event.
“The construction of this building was irresponsible. It was never meant to be occupied by humans. I urge you to visit the site and witness it for yourselves,” he said.
He further emphasised the agency’s commitment to raising public awareness about the importance of living in safe and conducive environments to prevent future incidents like this.
