Everything is now set for Senator Joshua Dariye, the newly released former governor of Plateau State, to declare his interest in running for the Senate seat in Plateau Central on the Labour Party platform (LP).

Recall that ChronicleNG reported Dariye and Jolly Nyame, a former governor of Taraba, were freed from prison on Monday, three months after receiving pardons from the Council of State, which is overseen by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Out of the ten years that the former governor was given to serve for the N1.126 billion fraud, he spent around four years in prison.

The Plateau State branch of the LP has finalised plans to receive him from Abuja to choose the party’s senatorial form, according to Daily Trust.

The source, a representative of the Labour Party, responded: “Yes, it is true that Dariye will be running for a Senate seat. For the senatorial declaration, we are making plans for him to travel from Abuja.

The party official claims that the former governor of Plateau State has the ability to surprise voters at the election held the following year because of the widespread support he enjoys in the North-Central State.

He claimed Dariye had also helped the party’s governorship candidate, Patrick Dakum, who defected to the LP after being rejected by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dariye, who served as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor, defected from the party. He contested and won a senatorial seat in 2011 on the platform of LP.

The Labour Party has former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate.
