The Delta State Police Commissioner’s newly formed “Ember Months” Special Operation Team has apprehended six suspected armed robbers in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, said this in a statement on Sunday.
Edafe revealed that ammunition was recovered during the raid.
He also stated that the team has had success in combating crime and criminality, particularly in the city.
He stated that the Ember Month special operations team is made up of all tactical formations, including RRS, Raiders, CP-Decoy, Eagle Net, Safer Highway, Safe Delta, Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, Crack Squad, CP monitoring, and CP X-squad, all led by their respective commanders.
He said, “The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations and the various area commanders were equally directed by the CP to ensure strict supervision and monitoring of their activities. All these factors have contributed immensely to the peace the state is enjoying.
“On October 24, 2023, a team led by SP Inyere Chinedu was on night patrol along the Asaba-Benin Motorway by Rain Oil Filling Station and intercepted a commercial shuttle bus with four male passengers.
“During a search of the bus, one English Beretta pistol and one dagger were recovered from one of the occupants identified as Ishiaku Ya’u.
“The suspect and exhibits are in custody, and an investigation has commenced while efforts are being intensified to track down members of his gang and recover other weapons”.
Similarly, sector ‘C’ of the November month patrol was on stop and search duty along the Asaba-Benin motorway and stopped a shuttle bus carrying two male passengers.
According to Edafe, a locally made cut-to-size gun and two live cartridges were discovered among the passengers during a search.
The suspects were found with two pistols and four locally produced firearms, according to Edafe.
He urged the public to report any suspicious movements or people in their vicinity so that police can carry out their duty effectively while ensuring that all information will be treated strictly confidentially.
