Cole Palmer scored his first Chelsea hat-trick

Cole Palmer scored a late goal at Stamford Bridge to hand Chelsea a 4-3 victory over Manchester United in a thrilling encounter in the Premier League.

Conor Gallagher gave the home team the lead in the fourth minute and the Blues looked like they were running away with it when Cole Palmer scored his first of the evening from the spot after Marc Cucurella was fouled by Antonio.

But United were back in it thanks to a back pass from record-signing Moises Caicedo. Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho pounced on the loose ball to sprint past Benoit Badiashile and slot the ball past Dorde Petrovic in goal.

Bruno Fernandes’s header drew Manchester United but there was more drama to follow. Garnacho scored his second of the night and it looked like Chelsea have thrown away a lead just as they had done against Burnley but two late goals from Palmer handed the Blues all three points.

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke was fouled deep into added-on time by Diogo Dalot. Palmer stepped up and sent Andre Onana the wrong way. With time running out, Enzo Fernandes played a short corner to Palmer who rifled the ball that took a deflection off Scott McTominay past Onana for the winner.
