Serie A champions Napoli have stated that the club never intended to mock Victor Osimhen in the now-viral TikTok video.
Despite describing the Nigerian forward as “a treasure of this club”, Napoli, in a statement released today, failed to tender any apology to Osimhen, who has expressed his discontent over the TikTok video that described him as a “coconut.”
Napoli’s rebuttal comes on the heels of accusations that the club mocked the striker as a result of his penalty miss in the Naples-based club match against Bologna. An action that reportedly made Osimhen delete all pictures of him in a Napoli shirt from his Instagram account
Reacting to the accusations, the Serie A champions said “Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, points out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club”.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad”.
“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision”.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”
