Liverpool Jurgen Klopp was stunned by the poor performance of his team

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has criticised the referee’s decision on Mac Allister, who was dismissed in the 58th minute for a challenge on Ryan Christie in his home debut for Liverpool.

Despite Liverpool winning the game 3-1, Klopp was disappointed with the red card and stated that the Reds would challenge the decision.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: “I saw the red card back, and for sure we have to talk about it. I understand 100% how it looks for a referee in that moment but when you see it back it is the inside of the foot and no power behind it.

“It is not ruthless; it is just mishitting the ball and then slightly hitting the shin of the other player. We saw harsher challenges that were not red cards, and this shouldn’t have been. I don’t know exactly what we have to do, but we should talk about it again.”

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola agreed that Mac Allister should not have been sent off based on his observations.

Iraola said, “I don’t know. In real life, it did not look like a red card.”

Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool from Brighton for £35 million, was making his first appearance for the club.

Antoine Semenyo scored the opener for Bournemouth in the third minute, while Luis Diaz later equalised for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah made it 2-1 to Liverpool as he scored the rebound after his penalty was saved while Jota sealed the victory for Liverpool in the 62nd minute earning Liverpool a 3-1 win over the visitors.
