Rosolino ‘Lino’ Celesia, a former Italian footballer, was reportedly shot dead by two brothers in a nightclub bathroom on Wednesday night.
Celesia, 22, was pronounced dead at a Palermo hospital after being shot three times in the neck and chest.
According to the local Italian newspaper L’Unione Sarde, tensions between Celesia and the brothers had been building for some time, and they were involved in a dispute a month ago.
The Palermo Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of the two brothers, aged 17 and 22, after reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.
The younger brother, who is still a child in Italy, is suspected of murder, while the older sibling is accused of unlawful firearm possession.
The ex-Italian footballer began his football career in the academies of Trapani and Torino before returning to his hometown of Palermo.
Before retirement, he played for lower league clubs Marsala, Troina, and Parmonval.
