South West Islamic leaders and clerics have condemned the incident at the Osogbo Eid prayer field between certain aides to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and an ex-Senate spokesperson, Dr. Ajibola Basiru.
Sheikh Iskeel Awwal, Wakeel Muslimeen, South West, Edo, and Delta states, spoke on behalf of religious leaders and advised politicians not to transform the Eid prayer ground and mosque into a political battlefields.
Sheikh Awwal made the remarks while addressing reporters in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Thursday.
He encouraged the governor and other state officials to respect religious leaders.
Chronicle NG reported that Bashiru and Adeleke’s aide clashed at Osogbo Eid praying ground over seating arrangements.
Religious leaders in South West reacted negatively to the confrontation in the house of God.
He said, “All Muslims in South West condemn what happened in Osogbo. We condemned the clash at the Eid prayer ground. They should not take politics into the Eid prayer ground or mosque”.
Wakeel Muslimeen urged Asiwaju Adeen of Yoruba land to be respected as a Muslim leader in Yoruba country and Nigeria.
“Politicians should respect religious leaders and the religious leaders should respect political leaders” he said.
“They should all fear Allah and know that Allah is above everybody, be it governor or senator” he added.
