The federal government has declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, respectively, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced this on Sunday on behalf of the federal government in Abuja.
Tunji-ojo, in a congratulatory message issued by the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, congratulated the Nigerian Muslim faithful for successfully completing the fast in the holy month of Ramadan.
The minister enjoined Muslim Ummah to imbibe and practice the virtues that entail kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, and compassion as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Tunji-ojo urged Nigerians to remain united in order to achieve peace, strengthen peace, and promote unity in the country.
The statement reads, “The minister wished all Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration and prayed that the peace, blessings, and favour of Allah be with us and our great nation, Nigeria.”

Its a big heart and considerate decision by the FG to have declared Tuesday and Wednesday, the 4th and 5th of June as public holidays for Eid-El-Fitr. This goes to show that the government does recognize the importance for Muslims to take time out to celebrate, ruminate and participate in community affairs. I must say this is a golden opportunity for all to partake in all that makes an Eid celebration tick fom mass giving to charity, reunity bonds between families long not seen or heard from and catch some good fun. From myo POV , beyond funfair it’s a perfect moment where we imbibe love, fulfilment , serenity peace humanity etc
