President Bola Tinubu on Sunday mourned the demise of Herbert Wigwe, CEO of Access Holdings, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, with shock and deep distress.
Tinubu described their passing as “an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension.”
The founder How Foundation, and chairman Nigerian Exchange Group were reported to be aboard the helicopter that was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night, killing four other passengers on board.
The president eulogizes Wigwe and Ogunbanjo as exceptional Nigerian business leaders.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, said in a statement on Sunday.
The statement reads, “After receiving an official confirmation of events, President Bola Tinubu receives with shock and deep distress the news of the passing of Mr. Herbert Wigwe, top banker and entrepreneur, and Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, OFR, former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, along with members of the Wigwe family.”
“The President condoles with the Wigwe and Ogunbanjo families, the business community, and all those impacted by this harrowing incident.”
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed and asked God Almighty to comfort the multitude of Nigerians who are grieving and the families of the deceased at this deeply agonizing moment.
