    Teenager killed as bandits attack Kwara community

    Over 11 local vigilante members have been confirmed dead following a fierce gun battle with heavily armed bandits and unconfirmed numbers of vigilantes in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

    A teenager identified as Rukayat has been reportedly killed after an attack by armed bandits on a community in Kwara state.

    Reports say that two other persons sustained bullet wounds during the attack.

    It was gathered that the assailants stormed a farm settlement at Ahun village, Oro Ago, Ifelodun Local government area.

    The incident was confirmed by the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi in Ilorin, on Sunday.

    He said, “On Sunday, 26/09/2021, at about 0830 hours, some community leaders from Ahun farm settlement in Oro Ago, came to the divisional office in the area to report the incident of gunmen’s attack in their community.”

    According to him, the bandits who came in large number, shot sporadically upon entry into the community. In the ensuing chaos, a teenager was shot dead.

    Babawale stated that the reason for the attack is not yet known, however, investigations have launched to fish out the perpetrators.

    He said that the community leaders were working hand-in-hand with security operatives to hasten investigations and supply crucial information.

    The command’s image maker added that security has been beefed up in the area to prevent subsequent attacks.
