The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday rearrested notorious Ibadan serial killer, Sunday Shodipo, in Akinyele, Ibadan, a police spokesperson said.
Police began a massive manhunt for Shodipe, 19, who escaped from its custody about a week ago.
Oyo Police Command Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed that the teenager has been arrested.
He added that the suspect is now in custody and has been placed under more stringent surveillance.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammnad Adamu had earlier sent in a crack team of detectives to complement the efforts of the officers of the command after Shodipe escaped from custody.
Oyo Commissioner of Police, Chuks Enwonwu, placed a N500,000 bounty on the suspect.
A police statement issued shortly after his arrest said operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Police Command re-arrested the notorious murder suspect at the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
It would be recalled that the erstwhile fugitive is a prime suspect in multiple murder of innocent citizens at Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State.
“The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu while commending the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu and his team for a job well done, equally expressed his sincere appreciation to the citizens for their support and understanding while the manhunt for the rearrested Shodipe lasted.”
The police added that the IGP has warned against any form of complacency on the part of the operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, stressing that all hands must be on deck to bring the case to a positive and successful closure.
