The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for Bola Abiodun, a landlady, and her husband, Sunday, who fled their Temidire community home in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state after reportedly disposing their tenant’s body in a canal.
According to reports, the couple allegedly committed the crime at 12:05 p.m. on May 8, 2024.
According to a police source in the command who was privy to the report but did not want to be identified because he was not authorised to speak for the command, the tenant, known as Iya Ibukun, was previously struck by a hit-and-run driver on May 5, 2024.
After suffering injuries in the accident, it was discovered that the deceased had turned to self-medication out of fear of not being able to pay her medical bills. After turning to self-medication, she died in her flat a few days later.
The landlady and her husband allegedly removed the corpse from the room and disposed of it in a nearby canal.
Mosuru Akindele, Chairman of the Community Development Association, was apparently phoned by people who were sceptical of the claimed incident, and Olabode Kazeem, a youth leader, was also contacted as a result.
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that officers were working to recover the body from the canal.
“Our men went to the house and discovered a two-year-old boy in a welfare facility. Meanwhile, our men combed the entire canal in search of the body, but we haven’t found anything,” she said.
