A senior officer of the Nigeria police has been reportedly killed during a clash with okada riders in Lagos state.

It was gathered that Chief Superintendent of Police, Kazeem S. Abonde was leading a raid against okada riders in Ajao estate on Thursday.

As tensions rose, he was reportedly mobbed and hacked to death by unidentified assailants, as his men scampered for safety in different directions which left him exposed.

CSP Abonde was formerly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ajangbadi.

The chairman of Isolo LCDA, Adebayo Olasoju urged residents of the area to remain calm as the situation is placed under control.

Olasoju disclosed in a statement that he had visited the crime scene along with some officials of the council and the Area D police commander.

The chairman stated that violence can never solve a misunderstanding and should be avoided by all means necessary.

“Ajao Estate, being a major entry point, especially to foreigners coming into our dear nation, deserves the serenity obtainable in city of equal status in advanced countries,” Olasoju said.

He added that an investigation into the situation had been launched, assuring the public that security has been beefed up in the area.
