Operatives of the Rivers State Police have arrested a man identified simply as Ikechi, who allegedly killed his father with a pestle in Rumuaghaolu, in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the suspect asked his father for an undisclosed amount of money but became angry when the deceased turned down his request.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident happened around 2.45 p.m. on Thursday.
The eyewitness said, “He was enraged over the deceased’s refusal to give him money yesterday (Thursday).
“The boy was suspected to be on drugs. He carried a pestle and hit his father.”
He stated that when the suspect realised what he had done, he attempted to flee the area but was apprehended by some residents after a neighbour raised the alarm.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police command’s spokesperson, verified the occurrence.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The boy has been arrested, and the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The investigation is still ongoing. If there are further developments, I will let you know. For now, the boy is with us.”
