Laolu Akande, the spokesman to former Vice President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has been conferred with the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
On Sunday, May 28, 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the conferment of special national awards on 339 Nigerians.
Akande, a seasoned journalist, editor, scholar, and lecturer who is well respected for his intelligence and expertise in his field of journalism worldwide, was bestowed the honor of an officer of the Order of the Niger for his meritorious service to the office of the former Vice President of Nigeria.
Akande, who described his service to Nigeria and the former Vice President as “a great privilege,” was reporting for Empowered Newswire, a US-based news agency before he was named Vice Presidential spokesperson.
He is also a former North America Bureau Chief for The Guardian (Nigeria) in New York City, United States.
