The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has stated that the state government would support the rebuilding of the GSM village at Kpata in Lokoja, the state capital, ravaged by fire on Thursday, to enable victims of the fire disaster to have their sources of livelihood restored.
Ododo made the promise on Thursday when he visited the fire scene to examine the extent of the damage caused by the fire outbreak.
Ododo, who sympathised with the victims of the fire, termed the amount of the damage as concerning and offered to assist business owners and other victims in recovering from the setback that has impacted their means of living.
“This GSM village has not only provided a dependable and legitimate source of living for several youths and women in the state; it has also impacted the state’s economy positively,” he said.
The governor informed market operators of urgent relief measures and promised that efforts for repairing and recovering damaged property as a result of the fire disaster would begin immediately.
Traders and people in the neighbourhood expressed gratitude and solidarity with the governor for his visit.
They stated that the governor’s visit has renewed their commitment to repair and grow as a business community.
