Sen. Abdul Ningi, a lawmaker representing the Bauchi North Senatorial District, returned to plenary sessions on Tuesday after a three-month suspension.
The Senate had pardoned and recalled him, effectively ending his ban, which began on March 12, 2024.
Last Thursday, Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro pushed for Ningi’s recall, expressing regret on his behalf and accepting responsibility for his acts.
Following several lawmakers’ petitions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Ningi’s unconditional recall.
Ningi was suspended for three months following a three-hour debate over his interview, in which he claimed that the budget passed by the National Assembly for the fiscal year 2024 is N25 trillion, while the one executed by the Presidency is N28.7 trillion.
Following his suspension from the red chambers of the National Assembly by the leadership of the 10th Senate under n President Godswill Akpabio, he resigned his position as chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum.
His resignation came barely an hour after he was suspended for three months for alleging that the 2024 budget had been padded with items worth over N3 trillion.
