Alleged non-indigenous Fulani sex offenders in abuja, police spokesman reacts
The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to the public outcry of a concerned citizen who raised concerns over a “menace roaming the streets of Abuja and Nigeria at large”.
In a statement she made on Twitter, the lady, simply identified as Naomi, made a public outcry to the police and Nigerians in general over the shenanigans of “non-indigenous Fulani” men who allegedly molest, rob, and terrorize residents of Abuja, even in broad daylight.
Recounting her ordeal, Naomi recounted how her friend and her were groped by some of the unscrupulous, non-Indiginous Fulani guys on different occasions.
She said “There’s a menace, roaming the streets of Abuja and Nigeria at large, if the government doesn’t take care of this, it will blow up in their faces. That menace is nonindigenous Fulani, I mean the ones that are not Nigerians.
“Let me share this experience.
“During the last Sallah celebrations, my friends were crossing the Chika bridge (airport road) when one of them put his hands around them and held their breasts, in anger my friend slapped him, he wanted to retaliate but she was charging toward them so they retreated.
“Fast forward to today, I was crossing the ShopRite bridge and I saw a lot of them (by their looks you can tell they are not Nigerians), immediately I remembered my friend’s experience and I prepped my mind just in case. As I was making my way across the bridge.
“One of them tried to touch my face and breast, his hand barely brushed my face when I slapped it down and gave him a very stern look. Other people on the bridge saw what happened and moved aside or turned back. I didn’t care to look back”.
She further alerted the police stating that the non-indigenous Fulani guys wielded knives and machetes boldly.
“These people have the guts and temerity to assault people in broad daylight, then imagine what they do at night. Before I forget, they were holding knives and machetes very boldly, like it wasn’t hidden, the sight of that alone scared me” she said.
Reacting to her claims, Adejobi noted that he has observed the influx of “these young guys” coming in large numbers into the FCT during Sallah, or festive days. He noted, however, that the police had yet to receive complaints of harassment against the young men.
“I think I noticed that these young guys come in large numbers into FCT, specifically recreation areas, to cruise, on any Sallah or festive day. But we have never received any complaints of such before now. I meant harassment. Not to my knowledge”.
He, however, stated that the police force would investigate and take appropriate measures if the claims were true.
“However, we will contact the CP FCT and others on this to take necessary action if it’s true” he added.
