No fewer than 10 people, including three children, were killed and 60 more injured when the roof of a church came crashing down on a baptism in northeastern Mexico on Sunday.
The accident rocked the Mexico seaside town of Ciudad Madero in Tamaulipas state, and a Red Cross rescuer told local media that the ceiling of the Santa Cruz parish collapsed, with 80 people in attendance at the time.
“Unfortunately, ten people are confirmed dead. Of these, five are women, two men, and three children,” the governor of Tamaulipas, Americo Villarreal, told reporters at the scene of the disaster.
The injured were taken to the hospital, with some reportedly discharged.
