The Lagos State Government issued a seven-day vacation order to motorists and commercial bus drivers operating on bridges throughout the state on Sunday, effective Monday, October 16, 2023.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, issued the notice on the need to eliminate all obstructions to the free flow of traffic on bridges across the state, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
Giwa revealed that, despite repeated warnings, motorists, notably commercial bus drivers, had continued to flout government regulations, generating obstacles around these bridges with serious consequences for the bridges’ stability and traffic flow.
Quoting the SA, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said, “Every motorist and commercial bus driver operating along the Apongbon and Idumota (Cater) bridges, Elegbata, Ebute-Ero, and Ejalonibu must, as a matter of urgency, vacate these areas as LASTMA would commence strict enforcement operations immediately after the expiration of this ultimatum until zero tolerance is achieved across the state.”
