The Supreme Court has fixed December 15 for the delivery of judgement in the Federal Government’s appeal against a Court of Appeal decision that dropped criminal charges against Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu and ordered his release.

After hearing arguments from both the Biafran leader’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome SAN, and Tijani Gazali SAN, who represented the Federal Government on Thursday, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun set the judgement date.

While presenting its case, the Federal Government argued that the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which upheld seven-count allegations against Kanu, be upheld so that he could be tried.

While opposing, Ozekhome stated that the Federal Government has been unjustly and unlawfully detaining the IPOB leader since 2021.

He argued that the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss the charges against Kanu and order his immediate release be affirmed.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, dismissed the remaining seven-count criminal charges brought against the IPOB leader by the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 13, 2022, in a judgement in an appeal filed and contested by Ozekhome.
