An unprecedented crowd of red caps and veils trooped out to the streets of Kano to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf back to the state after several weeks of absence.
Yusuf, who had been in Abuja, was received by a wild, jubilating crowd on Sunday, who escorted him from the airport to the government house with some trekking.
The governor has not been in the state for no fewer than two weeks following the Supreme Court‘s hearing on the governorship tussle in the state.
The Governorship Election Tribunal had sacked Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of the state.
The Appeal Court further upheld the judgement of the Tribunal and also gave another verdict that Abba Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP when he contested for governorship.
Not satisfied with the judgement, the governor took his case to the Supreme Court of the land, seeking redress for the judgement of the lower court.
Speaking after his arrival in Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf commended the Supreme Court judges for their commitment to justice and fairness while assuring supporters of victory.
“I want to use this opportunity to commend the Supreme Court judges for their commitment to justice and fairness.
“I will also want to call on the people to have confidence in them and continue to respect their integrity,“ he said.
Yusuf stated this while delivering an address at the flagging off of the corporate security training of 2,500 youths in the state on Sunday.
