Israel-Hamas War: US, UK impose new sanctions on militants

Israeli officials got hold of documents describing Hamas‘ war strategy more than a year before the October 7 terrorist attack, but they were discarded as too ‘aspirational,’ according to reports.

However, it was unknown whether Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, or any other key political figures had seen the document before the attack.
According to reports, the 40-page blueprint (codenamed “Jericho Wall” by Israeli authorities) explained the attack strategy and how it will overwhelm the fortifications encircling the Gaza Strip, take over Israeli cities, and destroy Israeli military sites.

The records also revealed “the location and size of Israeli military forces, communication hubs, and other sensitive information,” thus raising questions about how Hamas gathered its intelligence.

There are also issues regarding why an Israeli intelligence official’s warning three months before the strike was ignored.

However, Israel is believed to have misinterpreted Hamas’ plea for licenses to allow Palestinians to work in Israel as an offer of peace.

What could have been an intelligence coup according to reports, has now turned into one of Israel’s biggest miscalculations in its 75-year history.
