Niyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, reportedly slumped and died in Abuja on Monday evening.
He reportedly fainted shortly after attending a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s headquarters, according to a trustworthy source.
According to the source, Ijalaye appeared to be in high spirits throughout the conference until he returned to his hotel room at the Bon Octagon Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory and fell.
The conference, presided over by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, concentrated on the off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo states.
He hailed from Ondo State, and was appointed as Ogun State REC in March 2022, following the relocation of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos.
