Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has stated that he is yet to speak with President Muhammadu Buhari after two attempts to brief the President on the chaos in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin called him (Sanwo-Olu) to inform him that President had asked that he called him.
President Buhari is yet to address the nation following the shooting at peaceful protesters in Lagos at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday night after a curfew was announced in the state.
“I called to speak to the President twice yesterday (Wednesday). First, he had not come to the office and the second time he was at the FEC meeting.
“I have not spoken to him directly but I actually did call to want to speak to him. He was at the FEC meeting but probably had his briefing,β he said in an interview on Arise News.
βHe (Buhari) was the one that asked the Chief of Defence Staff to call me and I think it was when he got my messages. When the Chief of Defence Staff called me, he said to me, it was the President that asked him to call.”
Soldiers who are yet to be identified by the Nigerian Army but believed to have been deployed from the Bonny Cantonment had fired at protesters on Tuesday after the curfew was imposed.
Hoodlums had gone on a rampage Wednesday morning destroying state owned properties including a BRT bus station in Oyingbo and local council offices across the state.
