The US Bureau of Prisons said it will investigate Nigerian convict Ramon “Hushpuppi” Abbas, who is currently serving an 11-year sentence.
This comes on the heels of a viral video that seemingly showed someone believed to be Hushpuppi holding a feast with others inside what was reported to be his detention facility at Fort Dix, New Jersey, the Peoples Gazette reports.
“We take these matters seriously,” the prison facility told the People’s Gazette on Thursday, adding that the “investigative department” would lead the investigation to determine the facts or lack thereof about the viral video.
It should be noted that Hushpuppi‘s ally and social media influencer, Tunde Adekunle, popularly called Tunde Ednut, celebrated his birthday on January 22, 2024.
While fans and other celebrities participated in the birthday celebration across Nigeria and parts of the United States, a video surfaced showing a feast of diverse delicacies, including jollof rice, pasta, and fizzy beverages, in what appeared to be a jail institution.
The Instagram influencer was jailed for more than 11 years in the US for his role in an international fraud syndicate.
The influencer rose to fame by flaunting his wealthy lifestyle on his page, which boasted 2.8 million followers.
But it all came crashing down when he was arrested in Dubai two years ago.
