Sen. Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has called for the discontinuation of the ongoing “hunger protest.”
Sani, in a statement on X on Friday, mentioned that the demonstration has been marred by the wanton destruction of lives and properties.
He lamented that the protest has been hijacked by hoodlums, leading to the destruction of lives and state-owned and private properties.
Chronicle NG reports that no fewer than 17 lives have been lost following a clash between demonstrators and security personnel as a result of the demonstrations that turned ugly yesterday.
A development that has attracted condemnation from international organisations such as Amnesty International.
Speaking on the turn of events, Sani said, “With scores dead, hundreds injured, and properties worth billions of Naira belonging to private businesses and government destroyed by hoodlums, mostly in Northern states, those wishing to encourage the continuation of this protest, especially in the North, should reconsider.
“At our end, it’s a violent protest without visible leadership and must be discontinued.”
Following the commencement of the protest on Thursday, several properties have been destroyed by hoodlums and robbers, disguising themselves as protesters.
Chronicle NG reported that the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) in Kano State was broken into and looted by criminals disguising as demonstrators.
Also, there have been series of looting and destruction of lives and properties in Kaduna, Edo, Katsina, Borno, and Yobe State.
A development that has led to the imposition of curfew in those troubled regions.
