The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kano State Command, has detained 11 suspects for vandalising and looting the Nigerian Communications Commission Digital Industrial Park in Kano on Thursday.
This is stated in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on behalf of the state commandant on Friday.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended following reliable intelligence from men in the NSCDC’s intelligence and investigative department about miscreants claimed to have vandalised/looted facilities at the soon-to-be-commissioned Digital Industrial Park, Nigerian Communication Commission.
“Seven suspects have so far been arrested in possession of items comprising computer desktop sets, keyboards, LCD TVs, executive chairs, doors, window frames, drawers, etc. The arrest was effected by men of anti-vandalism, the armed squad, and the operations department of the Corps,” the statement said.
He said the suspects were thought to have vandalised and stolen the items after the protests on Thursday and hidden them in an area of the Audu Bako Secretariat complex near the Kano Line Motor Park.
According to Abdullahi, the suspects were retrieving the stolen merchandise when Corps operatives pounced and took them up.
“Additionally, four suspected criminals who vandalised state road dual carriageway iron demarcating shields have been captured while conveying the looted goods to an unknown destination,” he added.
However, NSCDC operatives on patrol duty on Friday at 1130hrs successfully retrieved a 50KVA Mikano generator from hoodlums in Dorayi who had vandalised the set and were about to steal it when they saw our troops and abandoned it.
“The NSCDC, Kano command, under the leadership of Commandant Mohammed Falala, intensifies efforts in guarding critical national assets and public utilities in the state,” he added.
He cautioned criminals not to vandalise public infrastructure because anyone detected will be detained and prosecuted.
