On Sunday, unidentified gunmen shot two yet to be identified police officers from Delta State’s Dragon Patrol Team at their checkpoint along the Ughelli-Asaba Road near the Oleh roundabout.
A commercial motorist who narrowly missed death in the incident said he couldn’t confirm if the two police officers were killed in the attack but that the police patrol van was set on fire.
He claimed that by the time he and others emerged from the thicket where they had collided, another police van had arrived to transport the victims away.
As of the time of reporting this story, the state Police Public Relations Officer Command, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment on the event.
In the same vein, the Ondo State Police Command announced the arrest of a driver who crushed a policeman to death at a checkpoint along the Benin-Owo Expressway in the Ifon region of the state’s Ose Local Government region on Sunday.
According to police, the driver was apprehended by troops from the Nigerian Army in Sobe, Edo State.
However, the police command denied an earlier report that the cop was killed by suspected kidnappers.
