Several flights have had to be rescheduled following the ongoing protest by students at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

NANS had made good their threat to shut down the airport over the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

As early as 7: 00 am, the students who are members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), blocked the international airport causing gridlock on both ends of the airport.

Later, the students moved to the domestic airport wing, causing a standstill situation along the airport and Mobolaji Bank Anthony roads leading to the local airport.

Both the domestic terminal one also known as the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and the terminal two operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Service Limited (BASL) of the Airport and the MMA were shut down by the students preventing passengers from accessing the airport.

At the GAT, the protesting students were joined briefly by a former Students Union Government President of the University of Lagos and Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

He joined in solidarity with the students and decried the inability of the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve the lingering strike.

ChronicleNG learnt that some local and international flights have been rescheduled because of the protest leading to inactivity at the airport.

The students are still at the GAT and Arik Air headquarters at the time of filing this report.
