Residents were in panic following an explosion in Maitama, Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday.
This occurrence comes a week after the Ibadan explosion, which claimed the lives of five people.
The loud explosion was heard in nearby areas around Wuse II and Banex, sparking suspicions of a potential bomb blast.
An eyewitness in Maitama, Muhammadine, confirmed the incidence to Chronicle NG. “The explosion is actually from a burning dump site. A truck came to pick up BPE trash, and while they were in the process of emptying the second trash can, an explosion occurred.”
“I was merely four metres away from the explosion (on that pavement) when it happened.”
“Two men were injured, rushed to the hospital, and my windscreen was shattered, he claimed.”
The possibility of empty gas cylinders in the refuse triggered the explosion, dispelling any notion of a bomb.
