Nigeria’s secret service, Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested tailors in the northern state of Kano on Monday for sewing Russian flags used by demonstrators in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The DSS however denied arresting one Adaramoye Michael (aka Michael Lenin) noting that he is not in their custody.
In a terse post on social media, the DSS said those who sponsored the use of the Russian flag have been arrested and that it has begun investigation.
“The DSS can confirm that Adaramoye Michael (aka Michael Lenin) is not in its custody,” a post on X said.
“Meanwhile, the Service has apprehended some tailors in Kano State responsible for making Russian flags being distributed in the area. Some of their sponsors have also been picked. Investigation is ongoing.”
There has been mixed reaction to the arrest of the tailors while some Nigerians commended the DSS, others condemned their action.
Uncle Anass wrote “Can you just imagine. You’re making our country a laughing stock among the comity of nations. Shame on you Nigerian government. A poor tailor looking for a food, poor people revolting against your oppression.”
Peter Obi First Son echoed similar sentiments. “You see this organization here. They are one of the problems we have in this country for allowing themselves to be used by the politicians.”
Sambo Mai Hula had a different opinion. “The DSS is doing a Good job by apprehending those waving and sewing flags of Russia. Our people know what they are doing by waving the Russian flag. They are aware of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. There should be no excuse for this act.
