Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and Nigerian Police Force personnel have seized control of the Cross River State Assembly complex.
This occurred following the impeachment of Assembly Speaker Elvert Anyambem.
Chronicle NG gathered that Ayambem was impeached for alleged severe misconduct and money embezzlement.
Members have been voicing discontent with the speaker’s conduct and assembly operations for some months, prompting the decision to oust him.
As of Tuesday, over 20 members had signed up for his impeachment, and Effiong Ekarika, a member representing Calabar South 1, moved the motion on the House floor, which was seconded by Charles Omang.
After his impeachment, the members took away the mace.
