The Bauchi State Government has presented a supplementary budget of N94.676 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval.
The plea, read at Tuesday’s plenary by the House’s Deputy Majority Leader, Babayo Akuyam, was made on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.
Akuyam noted that the governor is seeking approval under Section 122 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution to expedite the implementation of key projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Bauchi inhabitants.
“The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructural development, human capital growth, and enhancing the health and education sectors,” Akuyam said, quoting the letter from Governor Mohammed.
Furthermore, the House has moved to establish a Food Security and Nutrition Committee to combat hunger and malnutrition in the state.
The Majority Leader, Akuyam, presented the resolution and noted that the committee would focus on improving the nutritional status of Bauchi inhabitants, particularly the most vulnerable groups, such as women, children, and internally displaced individuals.
“The committee’s role includes ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in line with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,” Akuyam added.
