    Bauchi govt. releases N100m for payment of gratuities to retired civil servants

    Alhaji Nasiru Yelwa, Head of Service, Bauchi State, Tuesday, in Bauchi, said that the state has released N100 million for the payment of gratuities to its retired civil servants.

    Presenting cheques in his office to some of the beneficiaries to mark the commencement of payment, Yelwa said that N50 million each was released to the State Pension Board and Local Government Pension Board for the exercise.

    He explained that the payments were being made to civil servants who retired between the months of August 2011 to October 2011.

    He further explained that the retirees of Local Government in the state would be paid for the months of October 2010 to December 2010, adding that it might be extended to January 2011.

    Yelwa said that priority was being given to families of beneficiaries who had died, with a view to alleviating their hardship.

    He said that the exercise was being conducted simultaneously in two centers in the state.

    The head of service promised that the exercise would be conducted monthly to enable government offset the accumulated gratuities owed retirees by the state.

    He commended Gov. Bala Muhammed for fulfilling one of his campaign promises by living up to the expectations of the retirees. (NAN)
