Aisha Yesufu, a sociopolitical activist, has warned of a more damaging protest than the 2020 statewide 'End SARS' demonstration.

Nigerian politician and activist Aisha Yesufu has berated in strong terms the Nigerian Senate, describing senators as a “bunch of clowns.”

Yesufu made the remarks in a video clip posted on her verified X handle on Monday.

Describing the senate as a “joke,” Yesufu noted that despite the prevailing economic hardship and insecurity in the country, Nigeria has a bunch of “jokers” presiding over “our affairs.”

The #BringBackOurGirls activist stated this while reacting to a statement by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who stated that the suspended Sen. Abdul Ningi would be rejoining the Senate soon.

Chronicle NG reports that  Akpabio made this statement while answering questions from reporters after returning from the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ningi was suspended for three months following a three-hour debate over his interview, in which he claimed that the budget passed by the National Assembly for the fiscal year 2024 is N25 trillion, while the one executed by the Presidency is N28.7 trillion.

Yesufu said, “Honestly, we just have a bunch of clowns as senators and people who are just presiding over our affairs.

“The Senate is like a joke to them. A place that doesn’t matter where they go to joke or while away time.

“For some governors, it is their retirement home, where they just go and sit down and just while away the hour. They don’t care.”

Speaking on Sen. Ningi’s suspension and possible recall by the Senate, Yesufu noted that though Nigeria is in a state of a quagmire, those who are supposed to lead the country forward are “just a bunch of jokers.”

She added that “there has been absolute proof that indeed they padded those budgets to the tune of trillions.”

She added that “Akpabio himself should be the one that should be impeached, but what you have, rather, is Ningi that has been put on suspension because Nigeria is always the country where the people who are doing the wrong thing always seem to have the muscle, the power, the audacity, and the enabling environment for them to behave badly, whereas the ones who are doing the right things are the ones who are being punished.”
