    8 killed as gunmen attack Zamfara Emir’s convoy

    Gunmen on Thursday night attacked the convoy of the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Asha leaving eight members of his entourage dead.

    Among the dead were palace guards, a driver and three police men attached to the Emir.

    An online platform, SILN reports that the Emir’s convoy was attacked along Zaria-Funtua road, Kaduna state.

    Reports however said that the traditional ruler, who was said to be on his way back to Kaura Namoda from Abuja where he attended an event, escaped unhurt.

    SILN further reported that the Kaura Namoda Emirate Council were making arrangements to convey the bodies of the victims to Kaura Namoda for burial later in the today.

    “The emir was traveling back to Zamfara from Abuja with his convoy when he was attacked. He was travelling in his official vehicle with a Toyota Hilux as part of the convoy. He didn’t sustain any injury but we lost eight occupants of the Toyota Hilux.

    “The driver, two palace guards, including Sarkin Dogarai, three police escorts, and one traditional tittle holder (Shinfidan Kaura) were all killed by the gunmen,” the report stated.

    The report added that the incident, which occurred about midnight, forced the Emir to abort the journey and passed the night at a police station in Funtua.
