A truck conveying hundreds of people in Niger State, Nigeria has killed at least 17 persons and has left 208 people injured, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The truck reportedly veered out of control and crashed, the FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem said.
The accident occurred at about 0200 GMT on Tuesday in Takalafia village, in the Magama local government area.
“The injured victims have been evacuated to Kantagora General Hospital for immediate medical attention, while the dead victims were deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital,” the statement said.
Traffic accidents are in Nigeria, where many roads are in poor condition and full of pot-holes. Crashes are frequent, particularly at night with vehicles poorly lit.
