No fewer than 11 university students were killed and 22 others kidnapped in the last three months.

It was gathered that the impacted students were victims of various violent crimes, including robbery attacks, that occurred across Nigerian colleges over the last three months.

As part of the fatalities, Favour Ugwuka, a final-year student at Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, committed suicide in her hostel at the school’s Ishieke Campus on May 22, 2024.

Also in May, Alex Timileyi, a 200-level engineering student at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, was clubbed to death by a coworker over an accusation that he stole a mobile phone.

In the same month, gunmen kidnapped two female students from Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State.

Similarly, two students at Confluence State University of Science and Technology in Lokoja, Kogi State’s capital, were kidnapped on Thursday, May 9, and slain on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

On June 13th, Adekolore Glory, a female University of Benin student, was also raped to death in Benin City’s Iyowa Community.

Ifunanya Miracle, a recent graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Department of Quantity Surveying in Awka, died in June while attempting to flee a yet-to-be-identified prankster’s robbery on the school grounds in the Anambra State capital, while her friend, Peace, was rushed to the hospital with varying degrees of injury.

In July 2024, Favour Okenyi, a 100-level student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, went missing after attending a chemistry practical, and her body was later discovered near the Eni Njoku male hostel, near the university’s stadium junction.

In the same month, Modupe Ayandare, a student at Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko, was discovered dead outside the university.

Also in July, Hammed Fabiyi, a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education, was slain by suspected cultists after being pulled out of the exam hall while doing his final papers.

Similarly, that month, Francis Palowei, a final-year student at Niger Delta University, was at the Sand Dump, a popular spot for students to relax and socialise, when some youths in Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa, stabbed him to death after he refused to give them N150.

Two days ago, at the University of Ilorin, some unidentified students and a shuttle driver were involved in a deadly auto accident at the school’s main gate, resulting in the death of one student.
