A Nigerian has called on the President, Bola Tinubu, to revisit the “Twitter ban” post-agreement the federal government had with the social media company under Buhari’s led federal government.
The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, under ex-Minister Lai Mohammed, led the negotiations with Twitter under Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO, and reached an agreement that Twitter must remit 30% revenue tax and own an office in Nigeria, among other things.
Prince Adeshina tweeted on his Verified Twitter page, as stated, that caught the attention of Tweeps, Chronicle NG reports.
“TIME TO BAN TWITTER NG.
Dear President @officialABAT, I humbly request that you review the agreement that the previous administration had with Twitter. As we were told then, the company ought to have at least one office here in Nigeria and must remit 30% of their profit annually.
In the UK, just last year, Twitter paid £1.24 million as revenues increased by 30.5% to the UK government. The Twitter company is earning through us, and the FG must act now to compel them to pay tax as well”.
