Eccentric Twitter owner and chief executive, Elon Musk, has put his position as head of the social media platform to a vote.

Musk who was in Qatar for the World Cup final asked users to vote in a poll that will determine if he stays on as the head of Twitter which he acquired for $44 billion.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” he said in his tweet.

Chronicle NG reports that at the time of filing this report 13, 434, 483 users had voted with 57 per cent voting Yes, that he should down while 43 per cent voted No.

The tweet has generated more backlash for Musk as some users claim that even if he steps down he is going to appoint a rubber stamp replacement who will not ensure true freedom of speech and information.

Others made fun of Musk saying that he will manipulate the result of the polls. Zsolt Wilhelm in an attempt to predict the outcome of the poll wrote: “Let me predict the consequences of this poll: If ‘yes’ Elon will be CEO for a few months longer until he finds a devoted successor.

“If ‘no’ Elon will be CEO for a few months longer until he finds a devoted successor.

Another response to Musk’s tweet read, “Honestly, I think you should sell Twitter and buy Fox News instead.”

Chronicle NG reports that Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion after a legal battle with the previous shareholders.
