Nigerians blast Alakija over the crash of her marriage

Folorunsho Alakija, Nigeria’s wealthiest woman, and her husband Modupe Alakija parted ways after more than 30 years of marriage.

Alakija, the mother of four, and the businessman are said to no longer reside together in their marital house in upscale Ikoyi, Lagos.

The pair was claimed to have frequent squabbles, which prompted Alakija to want complete seclusion in her home.

Alakija’s husband was obliged to look for alternative living arrangements. He supposedly lives alone in the same Ikoyi neighborhood.

Following the separation, a cross-section of Nigerians blame the woman and her wealth for the crash of the marriage.

Responding to the news of the separation, an X user, simply identified as Franklin, stated that the chances of a marriage succeeding become slim when the wife is richer than the husband.

“As a man, once you get married to a woman who’s wealthier than you, the chances of the marriage being successful are slim,” Franklin stated.

In his reaction, Engr. Popey states, “When a man becomes successful, the first thing he thinks of is elevating his woman, but when a woman becomes more successful than her husband, the first thing she thinks of is why she doesn’t need a man. Men should start thinking with their heads.”

Blaming Alakija even further, King J. Ololjolu states that “if a woman tasted power or had money, they’d think they could not be submissive or not need a man. We surely live in a cynical world.”

    • Women are naturally selfish, bad leaders – Shola

For X handler Ooni of Twitter, he argues that “women are not meant to be richer than men. It never ends well. This is the marriage that some people have been using to nullify the notion that a woman can be wealthy and have a good home, not knowing the surge the man might be passing through.”

Arguing that the world is “designed against men,” Badmus Uthmaan stated that “this is the lifestyle of every rich woman.”

He added that “a man will leave his happiness to make a woman happy, but a woman will leave a man to make themselves happy.”

Dr. Adepoju argued that men love to control their homes. However, he noted that it becomes an uphill task to control “an influential and wealthy woman.”.

“I’m very sure they got to this stage because of what the public will say. Men naturally want to control their homes, but it’s not easy to control an influential and wealthy woman. What did you want to tell her?

“That’s why most wealthy women don’t marry. It’s only luck and grace that’ll make a wealthy woman submissive to a man.”

In his response, Olamide quoted Shola, a social media influencer, when he said, “When a man becomes successful, the first thing he thinks of is empowering his woman, but when a woman becomes more successful than her husband, the first thing she thinks of is why she doesn’t need a man. Men should start thinking with their heads.”

“The man won’t divorce his wife if he is the wealthy one; a rich man can empower a generation under him while a rich woman can only empower herself,” Ernext Glow argues.

Blaming Alakija, Konig Timiz blames her for allegedly being a feminist.

He said, “The spirit of feminism has finally entered her. Now it just confirmed that women don’t like men, and they are mainly in it for survival and biological procreation.”

Despite the backlash, Daniel Regha noted that Alakija should not be blamed for the crash of their marriage.

He said, “Wealthiest woman or not, marriage isn’t by force, and it’s best to respectfully part ways than to resent each other.

“As long as their children aren’t affected, this shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s sad how many are trying to blame one person but know nothing about what happened.”
