Police stated on Saturday that 11 persons fishing on the coast of the St. Lawrence River in Canada’s Quebec province were washed away by a tide, killing four children and leaving one man missing.
The youngsters, all over the age of ten, were discovered unconscious on the coast in the Portneuf-sur-Mer district north of Quebec City early Saturday morning.
They were transferred to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.
A man in his 30s was still missing.
At 2 a.m., emergency services were contacted, and six persons were rescued from the sea.
The occurrence happened in Canada’s Quebec’s Côte-Nord area, which encompasses much of the Saint Lawrence River’s northern bank.
